Hailing from Oakland, California, KEV CHOICE is a lyricist, pianist, composer, and band director with a scholarly classical and jazz background. About Dj Spair - Co- Founder of the already-legendary Oakland Faders crew, Spair has already become a major factor in the still evolving Bay Area DJ scene. A well-respected contest winning mix DJ with deep crates and an even bigger love for vinyl, Spair has redefined his technical abilities to become a club favorite as well as a skilled producer.

While still in High School, Spair briefly ran a record pool with future DJ Mere and cut his teeth as an in store DJ for Beastie Boys owned X-Large store, in addition to making his first forays into the world of mix tapes. In 1999, Spair won URB magazine’s first ever mix-tape contest. Soon after that, his tape The Spair Mix Project, came to the attention of the SF DJ Cue, who was assembling a compilation, (Cue’s Hip Hop Shop) for Stray/Dogday records, then a well-respected player in hip-hop game. “Dope Music,” the first track ever credited to the Oakland Faders, the label was impressed enough to commission a 7” vinyl EP, Fader Beats, which featured Spair and DJ Platurn.

After continuing to hone his abilities, pumping out mix-tape after mix-tape and completing a stint at the Red Bull Music Academy in South Africa in 2003, Spair and Platurn entered Scion’s 2004 nationwide mix-tape contest, “Free Up Your Mix.” The Faders placed first, beating over 600 competitors, and their winning mix as distributed on 500,000 promotional CDs, which brought what had been one of the Bay’s best-kept secrets to national attention.

Since then, Spair has opened up for numerous artists, including Kool Moe Dee, Xzibit, Hi-Tek, Mix Master Mike, and the Roots. Spair’s production can be found on Bas-1’s Music for the Mentally Astute, Colossus’ “From the Lab remix, Live Human’s Remix LP,” and many other video and television projects. He’s also compiled an impressive mix-tape catalog dating back to 1996.

Spair wants it to be known that while he considers himself a hip-hop head, he’s first and foremost a fan of all music. “I don’t just focus on one genre; hip=hop is where my heart is at, he says. “ I like coming up with a creative mix, and being able to show my technical skills. Although mixing remains at the core of what Spair does, as he gets deeper into original production, he’s grown artistically, on an exponential level. “I don’t want to be classified as just a Dj… at the end of the day, it’s all music. Still, he adds, “being a DJ makes you a better producer.”

Info about Dj Vin Roc: Founder of ThatsThatlabel.com, Vinroc aka Vincent Punsalan, 28 started his career in music at the age of 10. he discovered his passion for music through djing. Growing up across the river from Manhattan in Jersey City, he was influenced by the melting pot of music that New York city had to offer. Hip Hop, House, Reggae Dancehall and everything else in between, A former two time world champion Dj and a producer, Dj Vinroc relocated to the west coast in 1997 to the Bay Area. Based on the west coast He began working with and performing with some of the most celebrated djs in the music industry: tour dates alongside Dj Z-trip, The Beat Junkies, Kid Kapri, Dj Qbert and Mix Master Mike just to name a few. He has even had the privelage to speak on a dj panel at a hip hop summit with the late Jam Master Jay and flanked by Africa Bambaataa. Currently Vinroc is focusing on music production and has had the privelage to do remixes and music for Talib Kweli , Black Thought of the Roots, Bay area soul siren Goapale, and Souls of Mischief. ABOUT COLLIE BUDDZ

Born in New Orleans, raised on the isle of Bermuda with intermittent stays in urban Toronto, Colin Harper is not an easy youth to pin down geographically. His musical alter ego Collie Buddz however, is one of the most firmly grounded voices you may ever encounter. Incorporating influences from hip-hop to soca, Collie’s music nevertheless has a rock-solid foundation in reggae - and its power to connect ghetto reality with the highest heights of human aspiration - that is a rarity even in Jamaica.

Born in 1981, at the dawn of the turbulent era signaled by the twin omens of Bob Marley’s passing and Ronald Reagan’s election, Collie was immersed in the sound system culture of Bermuda aka “The Rock” since the age of 6. “I used to come home from primary school and my brother would always be on the turntables, playin his new 45's an' I'd just be there vibesin'.” The evolution of dancehall and sound-clash culture into a movement of it’s own in the late 80s and early 90s set the backdrop for young Collie’s discovery of his own sonic identity, and the dancehall kings of that generation - Buju Banton, Bounty Killer and Beenie Man served as his primary influences. “Back when Beenie and Bounty used to war lyrically, seeing clashes wit’ Kilimanjaro an all the sound-man an’ everyt’ing…the whole music scene for me took on a new meaning. Clash thing an’ lyrical war became a part of my daily life from early out.”

The daily operation of trading lyrics in schoolyard clashes quickly gave way to more serious combat as “…people startin sayin ‘Ay, Buddz got some lyrics!’ From an early age, some of the local sounds on the island wanted to get me on dubplate,” says Collie, who stepped into the first of many vocal booths at age 16 to voice customized dubs for some Bermudian sounds. "Sounds was always trying to buss local artists in Bermuda.” Consistent encouragement from the various soundmen and engineers he encountered on those dub excursions led Collie to maintain a musical focus and eventually trek to Florida for a degree in audio engineering, a path that ended behind the boards of his own Bermudian studio, jointly run with his older brother (Smokey) and Sneek Success from one of Bermuda's founding sounds, 'Newclear Weapon'. Building riddims for other artists only expanded his love for writing and voicing his own lyrics however. “I used to make these beats an’ none of the tunes came out how I pictured an artist sittin’ on de riddim, so I decided to start to get in the booth myself again and spit some lyrics. Unless my brother engineerin’ for me, I’m runnin from the board to the booth, back to the board!” Like boot camp for a one-man army, that experience molded the signature vocal style that defines Collie Buddz - a songwriter who can lay his own riddim, sing the hook and chat on the verse. “I build de riddim first and while I’m building it I don’t try an’ think about lyrics ‘cause I'm tryin' to focus on the riddim, yunno? I make it sound as best I can and then for a day or two I rest my ears then start de writing process. I come up wif a melody firs’ and get that down, then start with the lyrics.” The skill with which he compartmentalizes multiple roles in the studio also extends to his easy movement between styles.

"Recently, Shepard Fairey and I threw some fundraisers for the Obama campaign. We called them "The Party for Change". (If you don't know who Shepard is--among many other things--he is the one responsible for the image on the right).

I've been wanting to put the mix I've been doing at these shows online, in hopes of spreading the word to people who need to hear it most. So, here it is:

Midnite Bio: ...Midnite explodes in live performances with sets that often exceed 3 hours. Their vigorous, weighty sound, driven by the punchy bass lines creates a vibe that penetrates straight to the heart. These epic musical communions have earned Midnite an enormous following throughout the roots community. This is especially true in St. Croix, Puerto Rico, France, Brazil, St. Louis, New York, Martha's Vineyard, Boston, Vermont, Asheville and here on the West Coast where they have toured extensively including another rousing appearance at the 10th Annual Sierra Nevada World Music Festival.

In the fall of 2003, Midnite released their first dub album "Intense Pressure" on the Rastafaria label, which includes some tracks from their prior releases along with some dubs of forthcoming albums. Midnite has released studio albums "Ainshant Maps" on their Afrikan Roots Lab record label and "Scheme A Things" on the Rastafaria label.

Midnite has also collaborated with I Grade Records for five releases: "Nemozian Rasta", "Assini" "Vijan", "Let Live" & "Jah Grid" Vaughn Benjamin lead singer of Midnite has also released albums under the name Midnite Branch I and collaborations: "Cipheraw", "Geoman", "He Is Jah" "Project III", "Full Cup", Thru & True, Aneed, "Sun's Of Atom", "New 1000", "Bless Go Roun", "Better World Rasta" and "Infinite Quality" on the Lustre King label.

For the first quarter 0f 2008 Midnite has recently recorded a brand new studio album "Maschaana" & pulled from the vaults a rare never released recording titled "Kayamagon" and a first ever Live to disc CD "Midnite Live" Vol.1, all of these new releases will be available in February 2008 to support the Midnite Winter 2008 Tour.

By breaking all the rules, Midnite is setting a new standard. Armed with a firm foundation in Jah Rastafari, their natural talents, and a strong and uncompromising musical vision, Midnite champions a unique sound that is on the cutting edge of modern roots music.

DJ Zeph: Wide Hive Recording Artist, DJ Zeph, has been a tenacious disciple of music since 1982, starting off as part of a breakdancing crew from his hometown of Santa Cruz, Ca. Soon after, the eminent Kut Masta Murt took Zeph under his wing and often invited him into the studio. From that point on, Zeph began to concentrate on his skills as a DJ. After aquiring a degree in Audio Production from San Francisco State University and a tenure at the university's radio station, KSFS, Zeph had become a prominent artist from the depths of the Bay Area talent pool. Now, as he steps in the spotlight, DJ Zeph reigns as one of the top Bay Area DJ's, and rightly so. Inspired by everyone from Public Enemy, Stevie Wonder, Jungle Brothers to Bill Laswell, Zeph's sound is musically daring and pleasingly unique. Equally celebrated as a producer, engineer, and turntablist, DJ Zeph's career is on the steady rise. The momentum has continued with Zeph taking home the honor of "Best DJ/Turntablist" at the SF Weekly Music Awards in 2002. He now sits firmly alongside Little Brother, Wildchild, and GE-OLOGY as an Urb Magazine Next 100 artist for 2003. Zeph's latest album, Sunset Salvage (Formerly Sunset Scavenger), steps it up a notch by featuring guest artists Lyrics Born, Vursatyl of the Lifesavas, "Boots" of the Coup, Azeem, and more. This album offers up a diverse range of hip hop including funk driven instrumental jams to disco-infused booty shakers, as well as smooth rocking emcee tracks that roll over Zeph's signature soundscapes. With an aggressive touring schedule and the ability to please any hip hop and jam-funk crowd, Zeph continues to be one of the most successful and in demand Bay Area DJ's and producers. With a discography that spawns over severally critically acclaimed albums (L*Roneous Imaginarium and Zeph & Imperial's Breakbuilders), it was the May 2001 release of the DJ Zeph album (Wide Hive Records) that set him apart from many hip hop DJ's and exposed his deep musical roots. Hints of jazz, rock, funk, and soul color his album that made a spectacular #1 debut on the CMJ hip-hop charts, beating out such artists as Mystic, Jay Z, and Blackalicious. DJ Zeph is riding high off the success of his self-titled solo debut. On Seven Grain, he is reunited with lyricist Azeem, for the first 12", 'The Promise.' His improvisational approach delivers decisive scratches integrated with perfectly timed cuts. Other contributions range from raw grooves to ambient textures-often uplifting, sometimes edgy, but always in the groove. D.J. Zeph's raw scratching and cuts deliver energetic performances that integrate air sirens, drum loops, bass harmonica, and a wah-wah-saw solo. Jah Warrior Shelter Hi Fi is an award winning sound system based in California’s Bay Area. JWSHF was originally founded by singer/DJ Rocker-T during the early nineties in Brooklyn, NY . The sound became well known playing at the infamous Lion’s Den Dance during the mid nineties. In the late 1990’s, the sound system expanded to the Bay Area, first with selector Jah Yzer joining the crew, and DJ’s I-Vier and Irie Dole joining shortly thereafter.

In the 2000's Jah Warrior Shelter Hi Fi has established themselves as one of California's leading sounds, winning 7 Sound Clashes in a row. -----

You can find DJ SAKE-1 kickin' up dust and making 5,000-person venues feel like neighborhood house parties from San Francisco to New York City to Atlanta to London and beyond....

DJ SAKE-1 has humbly Served the People as resident DJ at legendary parties such as: Church; Fabric; Soulville; Candy House; Luscious; Oakland Reggae; FeelGood; Unify! and many, many more. Man, who the hell isn't a DJ in the Bay Area these days? Every other person you bump into is on the tip. Just being a DJ isn't good enough anymore. It has to be, "I'm an intelligent down tempo booty rock electro-clash mash-up glitch-IDM DJ. Oh, and I also play Duran Duran."

When was it decided that any jerk with 10 records (or 100 MP3s and Serato) is a DJ, and when was it decided that just being a good old-fashioned hip-hop DJ is passé?

DJ Platurn is way beyond all of that. He's a real deal hip-hop DJ who rocks the party the original way: nothing but top-notch track selection and skills to back it up. Give the man two turntables and a mixer and stand back because you're going to witness some classic DJing. He'll not only serve the crowd what they're hungry for, he'll keep 'em dancing with all kinds of tunes they didn't even know they wanted to hear. Cutting up breakbeats, doing blends live and on the fly, scratching, mixing…the guy's got the full skill set to be a fully-rounded DJ, and he's good at everything. Word certainly spreads quickly; besides having been voted Oakland's best DJ by the East Bay Express and winning Scions’ Free Up Your Mix competition along with fellow Oakland Fader DJ Spair, Platurn has devastated crowds from coast to coast and internationally. In doing so, he's shared the stage with folks like Z-Trip, Krs-One, Mixmaster Mike, The Beat Junkies, DJ Premier, Slick Rick, Maseo(De La Soul), ZionI, Jazzy Jay, Quest-Love(The Roots), M.F.
